the town of hillford, new york is nestled at the foothills of bear mountain, next to the hudson river roughly 55 miles outside of new york city. originally founded in the late 1700s, hillford served as a major dock along the hudson, supplying goods for troops during the american revolution. in the early 1880s, hillford became a stop along the west shore railroad, which connected buffalo, new york to weehawken, new jersey.
in 1958, the town sank into a decline due to the end of the railroad passenger service. this down turn lasted roughly 10 years until a wealthy developer from manhattan, james floyd, decided to revitalize the town by investing in main street and turn the town into a tour destination due to it's close prolixity to the mountain and river, making it an all season hot stop. turning the old west shore railway stop to a commuter rail terminal, residents of hillford have easy access to commuting to the city for work or pleasure.
now known for it's quaint town feel with its locally owned businesses, as a local ordinance passed banning the building of any chain commerce, hillford has become a desired location for individuals who want to enjoy easy living.
